Frame Materials and Construction
- Wood Frames: Boston Sash & Door is known for its commitment to traditional craftsmanship, with many of their window offerings featuring premium wood frames. These are typically constructed from high-quality lumber, selected for its durability and natural beauty. Wood frames provide excellent insulation properties and can be finished in a wide array of stains and paints to match any interior or exterior design.
- Composite Materials: For enhanced durability and reduced maintenance, some window models may be available with frames made from advanced composite materials. These materials are engineered to resist warping, rotting, and insect damage, offering a long-lasting solution without the upkeep associated with traditional wood.
- Potential for Aluminum Clad: While not explicitly detailed for every window type, it is common in the industry for manufacturers specializing in high-quality wood windows to offer optional aluminum cladding on the exterior of the frame. This cladding provides a protective outer layer that significantly increases resistance to weather elements, reducing the need for external painting and maintenance while preserving the beauty of the interior wood.
Frame Profiles and Customization
The specific frame profiles offered will vary depending on the window style (e.g., Awning, Casement, Double Hung, Specialty). However, Boston Sash & Door emphasizes their ability to provide custom solutions.
- Traditional Profiles: For historic renovations or period-specific designs, traditional frame profiles are likely available, designed to replicate the look and feel of classic window construction.
- Modern Profiles: Contemporary architectural styles may be accommodated with sleeker, more minimalist frame designs that maximize glass exposure.
- Customization: Boston Sash & Door's expertise often extends to custom-built windows, allowing for tailored frame dimensions, shapes, and configurations to meet unique project requirements. This includes the integration of transom windows and divided lites, which directly influence the frame design.
Considerations for Frame Selection
When selecting frame options, homeowners and builders should consider:
- Durability and Maintenance: The chosen frame material should align with the desired level of maintenance and the expected lifespan of the window.
- Energy Efficiency: The insulating properties of the frame material contribute to the overall energy performance of the window.
- Aesthetic Compatibility: The frame's finish and profile should harmonize with the architectural style of the building.
- Structural Support: The frame is critical for the window's structural integrity, especially for larger or specialty window types.

This design significantly reduces heat transfer, keeping your home cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, leading to potential energy savings.
- Low-E Coating: Low-emissivity (Low-E) coatings are an advanced feature available for V-1 Series windows. These microscopically thin, transparent coatings are applied to the glass surface and are designed to reflect infrared light (heat) while allowing visible light to pass through. This helps to:
- Reduce heat gain in the summer, keeping interiors cooler and reducing air conditioning costs.
- Reduce heat loss in the winter, retaining warmth inside and lowering heating expenses.
- Protect interior furnishings, carpets, and artwork from fading due to UV ray exposure.
- Argon Gas Fill: For enhanced thermal performance, the space between the two panes of glass can be filled with argon gas. Argon is denser than air and a better insulator, further improving the window's ability to resist heat transfer and contributing to a more comfortable indoor environment.
- Tempered Glass: In certain applications where safety is paramount, such as near doors or in areas prone to impact, tempered glass may be an option. Tempered glass is a type of safety glass that is treated by controlled thermal or chemical treatments to increase its strength compared with normal glass. When broken, it shatters into small, granular pieces rather than sharp shards, reducing the risk of injury.
Options-Styles
The Silver Line® V-1 Series offers a selection of window styles designed to meet various architectural and functional needs. This series is part of Silver Line's commitment to providing durable and aesthetically pleasing window solutions.
Window Styles Available
- Double Hung Windows: These windows feature two operating sashes that slide vertically. Both the top and bottom sash can be moved independently, allowing for ventilation from the top, bottom, or both simultaneously. This design offers excellent flexibility for airflow and ease of cleaning.
- Single Hung Windows: In a single hung configuration, only the bottom sash slides vertically. The top sash remains fixed. This is a more traditional style that provides reliable functionality and a classic appearance.
- Sliding Horizontal Windows: Also known as horizontal sliding or glider windows, these units feature sashes that slide past each other horizontally. They are ideal for larger openings and provide unobstructed views while offering convenient operation.
- Gliding Windows: Similar to horizontal sliding windows, gliding windows offer smooth side-to-side operation. They are an excellent choice for areas where outward or inward opening windows may be impractical.

Key Value Drivers:
- Material Composition: Primarily constructed with durable vinyl, offering good resistance to rot and corrosion, and requiring minimal maintenance.
- Longevity and Warranty: While built for reliability, the V-1 Series generally comes with a more standard warranty coverage compared to higher-tier products, reflecting its value-oriented positioning.
- Installation Labor Complexity: Designed for straightforward installation, which can help reduce labor costs on projects.
Best Suited For: This series is an excellent choice for new construction projects focused on cost-efficiency, rental properties where durability and low maintenance are key, or for homeowners looking to replace multiple windows without a significant budget commitment.
